Many sponges show what looks for all intents and purposes like a clear "trumpet". Though at this point I'm still stuck on tunicates, but they look so damn close to many sponges that womb could indeed be spot on. I won't argue it with him. In any event, we agree that they're NOT a bad thing, right?

Definitely not bad. They may indicate that you have a heavily fed tank, but that's it. I had these guys by the hundreds in my sump and skimmer and brought them in to campus to have someone ID them, and a young Rob Toonen (This was 4 years ago, he probably doesn't even remember it) ID'd them for me. :D
