Possible sponge? please help :)

Hello everyone! i started my 75g saltwater tank about a month ago. I added 40 lbs of live rock (i know its not enough but ill get more) 2 weeks ago.

Anyway, There was this squishy thing on one of my rocks, i thought it was dead for a while but now its looking a bit healthier...

Its starting to grow these clear tubes on it, but they are also starting to grow on the rock.. for a minute i thought they were baby Aiptasia but i HOPE not.

Anyone know what this is? is it bad or good? i dont want it to take over my tank :\ <3 <3 thank you so much.

Welcome to RDO Elise..

Looks to me like what you have is the same as whats in this thread:

A very common type of either sponge or tunicate. It usually grows in the lower light regions of a tank, and from everything I've heard (and experienced) they're pretty benign if not actually good.

So yeah, they're a good sign.. - Nothing to worry about.

Absolutely fascinating picture. I would bet that these are tunicates, but I can't say for sure. The ones on the far right side and the upper center of the picture look that way to me, anyway. It also appears like the small clear things are growing on the larger beige thing, whatever it is. Is that accurate?

Can you take a lot more pics, up close and focused?

heh - Get ready for them to grow in/on a LOT of other things too..



Like inside your skimmer and pretty much everywhere else where light is a tad low.
