Hi All,

New tank with 75Kg of live rock from Indonesia in for about 8 weeks. About a week ago I noticed this :

I am pretty sure it was not there before. It is about an inch tall and retracts the tentacle when touched. The snails and crabs have left it alone.

Is this Glass anemone (Aiptasia sp.), do I need to get rid of it ?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Paul

Looks sparse, but I think your on target calling it an Aiptasia... anyone else?

Remember.. I'm new to the world of marine aquatics, so don't bet the bank on me.

As far as getting rid of them I've talked to ppl along 2 veins... 1) Burn um' up with Kaulkweiser (spelling?) 2) Put a preditor in there :)

I didn't know the best way to do it so I removed the rock and then scraped the area with a knife. I hope this has worked.

Thanks for your help.

Scraping the rock off may actually cause more to sprout up from where it was. If you left any behind, that portion will begin to regrow. The best methods are bases or acids, but the kalk paste and joe's juice also seem to work alright.

Peppermint shrimp are natural eaters of Aips.
