Hi.. I noticed this on a piece of Fuji LR that I picked up today (finally have all the rock I want in my tank!). It LOOKS like a coral... it's hard... but is white like a skeleton... will it come back with appropriate lighting? Or is it an organism long gone?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

B. Snow

BTW Getting my skimmer and PH MONDAY (as long as UPS is ontime) woohoo!

Here is somthing else that probably USE to be something... a dead shroom? THis particular rock has 5 or 6 of these spots on it. Is it long gone too?

Believe it or not this tank is a LONG way from where I started a month ago.. actually from nothing! Appropriate lighting should be in the near future although I MAY have to wait till NOv. .. when my brithday rolls around haha.

Have a great night everyone!

They probably are dead, but who knows what else might pop up. I purchased the "garf grunge" to start out my tank 2 months ago. This week I found 3 small pieces of crushed coral fragments that have small polyps beginning to pop out of the small holes. At first I thought it to be diatom fuzz, but alas they retract into the holes if disturbed. :) I think they might be some form of a plate coral. Sorry no pic to post but hopefully for christmas. :) I know the feeling of running a saltwater on a shoestring budget. I've deceided to sit back and watch the tank mature for a while before I try to add much more.
