Hi,
I recently started a FOWLER 29 Gal tank, that someday might be a reef (I hope!). Anyway, there are 3 things that have shown up on my LR, and I'm new so I don't know if they're OK to have there or not.
1st: some kind of flat, brown polyp looking thing. OK to keep?

2nd: is this round circle of little white nubs that contract really quickly when startled (by a bubble, or movement...

3rd: A pine needle looking growth that showed up on my LR. It's growing a little too quick to be good, I think. But I trust you more than me!

Thanks for any tips you can shed!

You worry too much.
First picture is of Zooanthid polyps, second picture is of run-of-the mill feather dusters and third picture is of green macroalgae none are pests and all perfectly normal in startup tanks.

It may sound funny to the other members for me to agree with David (I'm a noob and he's an expert), but considering that you're new around and perhaps not knowing David you may need some re-assurance:

David is right ;-). The only slight change I'd do is to change the first one from zoanthid to Protopalythoa (both zoanthinds and Protopalythoa are in the same family (zoanthus?) and both are good citizens).

just get rid of the macro, before it bores into the rock with its holdfasts and becomes a never ending nuisance

I would like to point out that he is setting up a FOWLR, so maybe he should remove the zoos and ship them to me  . Maybe you should remove the feather duster also, they usually don't live long in home aquaria, so it's basicly up to you. Vitz is right about the macroalgae, you could put it in your refugium for nutrient export.

Brock - you don't want that zoanthid - it's ugly. :).

On the other hand I have about 4-5 different featherdusters, from my LR, 2-3 types really really nice. They are doing just fine, some multiplying like bunnies. I think that if I get an angel in they'll be all gone, but for now they're doing fine (1.5 years old tank).

If you get the macro in the fuge it will make its way in the display. My caluerpa did just that.

I had to buy my Zooanthids (cost me $20), so congrats. In my tank, the first critter to poke it's head out of the rocks was a featherduster like that, and a year later, that little guy is still there. In the beginning, I also had quite a bit of macroalgae. I picked them as individual plants got too big and unsightly. After a year of maturing, they don't grow nearly as much as they used too.
