Someone ID this for me please.

It's got a foot like a snail and it's armored on the top like a snail but the plates on top are segmented. It was impossible to remove from the rock so I had to chizzle some rock away. Any ideas?

My old eyes can't make out much in your pictures but what your describing is a critter of the Family: Chitonidae (Chiton), mostly harmless herbivores.
