Hello all,

I have a snail I found hitching on some zoas I put in my QT(gotta love when QTs work!). Anyway, there is some debate on whether it is a collista snail or a Heliacus species. Any opinions?

I definitely does not have the pyramid shaped trapdoor that I've seen in Heliacus pictures. When on my finger it simply had a white foot closed up.

It definitely does not look like the snail in the Hitchhiker FAQ. It does not have the checkerboard pattern, it is more stripes. And it definitely does not have the cone shaped thingy(technical term :D ) near the opening.

I found a picture of a collonista snail....

I have those! It's the other guy from the FAQ: the harmless grazer. I have tons of those, great at eating algae. It hides during the day and comes out at night, right? One hour after lights-off I have hundreds all over the tank. It the morning they're all gone. Keep him.

My bad. I never noticed that the first pic wasn't yours and the others were a little blurry. Aw well. I would agree that those are a hamless grazer if they are mostly nocturnal.
