Sorry for not having a picture yet, I haven't figured out how to get a good picture with my camera yet. hopefully i can explain well enough to get a lead on finding an image of this thing somewhere...

During the day, it is inactive, but hangs limp out of a hole in my live rock about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. At night it extends almost 5 inches and looks kind of like a pipe cleaner, except the fuzz is organized like a spiral staircase. Its probably 1/8 inch wide at the base and tapers down to its end. Its kind of a beige color. Its always been in the same hole and doubled in length over the last two weeks. Its hard to tell if its actually longer or is just extending further into the water.

Sounds like some of the worms I have on my live rock, kinda extend out and fan in the current. Mine have caused no problems, prolly just a way they feed.

Are there sponges that extend out and sweep water at night? At night, it reaches lengths of 4 inches or so. When its extended, the fuzzies spread out and it looks kind of like a pipe cleaner. It seems to move against the current when it wants. and contracts every few minutes or so... maybe when it catches some food. Its lived in the same spot on this rock since I first noticed it.
