i am living in florida close to the keys and i am loooking to go there to pull out some sand any imput will hellp is beter to buy o go and get some free sand
I don't know the legality behind it all, but if you want live sand, I highly recommend you get it from deeper water where there are no a) freshwater inputs and b) no sewage outfalls. The sand off of your area at around 75-100' is generally nice stuff, if you can dive. Don't collect right off of the beach as the die-off from it would be very high.
Barring your ability to get sand from 75' to 100', the carribean reef sand is available up here in NY at the home improvement centers for about $4/40lb bag. That is so cheap it ain't worth it to dive for it.
Having said that, are you sure you WANT sand in the tank? I am starting to get converted to the Bare-Bottom philosophy of tank keeping, although mine all have some kind of substrate at this point...
Yes, Home Depot has it, Lowes doesn't. The brand is Southdown, New Castle or Yardright. It says something like "Silica free carribean sand". "Do not use in aquariums". Just ignore the words of wisdom.
i live in central, indiana i am searching for some southdown playsand and all home depots around here say no does anyone know where i get find some i will pay for shipping if it does total more than what it would cost just to go to the pet store and buy their brand
