I have searched long and hard to find out what this is, and cant seem to find it anywhere on the net! It isn't a red grape algae....and I can't find anything similiar anywhere else. Anyone have any ideas? It started as a few little red bubbles, then grew into this monster.

Looks like some type of Kelp.

I can't tell from the pic, are the "leaves" flat or are they plump?

It appears to be a red species of Dictyota, but we need a clearer picture.

David,

It's looks to be the same stuff I have growing in my build-off tank. It feels like jello, the "leaves" are puffy. Most of the time they are a deep maroon color, but can be more brownish.

I'll see if I can get a better picture and we can compare mine to Cinci's.

First, thanks for the responses. Second, sorry for the crappy pics - photography isn't my strong point

But yes, it is like an eliptical bubble that splits and grows into two, then three, until it is a network type structure. It's not flat, or has plant like leaves, but its a translucent red and jello-ish like.

And yes, we have the same stuff growing in there. I can't find any info on it anywhere on the internet! Is your live rock from the Marshall Islands????? My LFS wasn't real sure either - when I bought it from them it was only two little red bubbles on the rock. I also got two christmas tree worms on that peice too. What a bargain!

looks kinda like this
http://www.saltcorner.com/sections/gues ... lanata.htm

I don't even remember where I got that particulart rock from, (it could be gulfrock) muchless where the rock came from orginaly. I will tell you that it is VERY easy to pull, just pinch it close to the rock and let go. It floats to the top for easy removal.

If mine wasn't in such a small tank, I'd just let it grow. 8)

This is it right here. Thanks guys!!! I appreciate the help. And I swear I couldn't find it after looking for hours and hours.
