Hello, noticed something new in our reef today, beneath my mushroom corals, inside the rock we have a worm like thing, I was thinking it was a snake polyp, but now not so sure, we were watching it come out, and the end of it opened up, and blew out a ploom of smokey looking stuff(did it spawn?) 8O , sorry don't have a pic, our camera is on the fritz, it's about the size of a pencil lead, or just a little larger. Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be?? :?:

8O , I think I figured it out to be peanut worms, been looking around, sorry for so many question's, but I am the newbie's wife (all new to me also), and we both are addicted 8O  thanks

Does the "worm" retract into itself? Is it hairy at all or smooth looking?
Is it larger on one end than the other? Does it seem to bore its own holes in the rock?

It retracts into the LR, It is not hairy, I do know we have a bristle worm, or 2, still not sure if they are good or bad either???, but the what we are seeing are smooth, and to apear to have a mouth at the end that feed off the LR surrounding them, can see them swallow the algae. So made me think it's a peanut worm, from what I researched. Thank you for the reply and look forward to any more info.

Quicksilver1972 with out seeing it I would have to agree with you that it does sound like you have a peanut worm based on the description.

Bristle worms are good. They are some of the best detritivores in your tank (picking up missed food and waste). Certainly nothing to be concerned about at all.

I'd agree you likely have a peanut worm.
