Hi There,

i have just introduced some living rock into my tank and i have a number of hitchhikers in amonst it, most notably a pair of emerald crabs, Mithrax sculptus, a tiny little feather duster worm a bunch of bivalves of somekind, and 3/5th's of an unidentified starfish!

now, the emerald crabs, i am fairly happy to have in the tank, as i have been informed that they shouldn't be a problem, and i am very happy to keep the feather duster, as i wanted them anyway, but i suspect he is no more, as he was attached to a piece of LR that got accidently 'relocated'

now the only thing is the starfish, i first saw him in the LFS invert display tank, i saw him climbing up the glass on the side, and noticed he only had 3 arms then and was only about 5mm across. they took the LR from the display, shook it gently in the tank and bagged it for me.
about a day after, i saw the same starfish, and assumed he got dilodged from the glass, and happened to land on the LR (lucky me!)

the problem is, i can't get a picture of it, as it has dissapeared into the tank somewhere now, and i have no idea what it is!

it looked to me like a baby Protoreastor lincki in black not red, but its hard to tell with something so small! my question is, what is it, how do i look after it, and will it be ok in a reef tank?

hopefully it will reappear, then i cansee if i can photograph it!

cheers people,

chris

i just google'd for asterina and that's it! thanks for the ident.

also having a closer look last night, found 5 feather duster worms all no more than 5mm across, 5 brittle stars, with bodies no more than 3mm a pair of bristleworms, and more copepods than i would care to count!

aside from the bristleworms, i'm really happy with all stuff i got free in my LR! i knew i would be getting a bit of stuff, but not that much
