Dad's Tank

New Reefer
It has not been a good week in Dad's tank. First an outbreak of flat worms and then today we spotted a Mantis Shrimp in the rocks. Does anyone have experience or advise about how best to rid him from our tank?

Grateful for any advise you can offer.

try a trap? search the web/forums for ways to trap shrimp. Usually it involves bait and a jar or something like it.

You can get a plastic coke bottle, cut around where the cone-shaped part starts, turn it around/inside out to where the the tip (where the cap goes) of the bottle is now inside the bottle, glue it together like that, and put it in your tank with a small piece of shrimp in there. Leave the bottle in there until you can him but make sure you replace the shrimp before it rots (you could just replace it after everyday in there just to make sure).

P.S. How are the flatworms coming along?

I tried a trap when I had a mantis and only caught hermit crabs and nassarius snails. I then started to watch for him and I got a good idea of which rock he lived in. I took the rock out, put it in a bucket, and used a turkey baster to blast carbonated water into all the holes. On the second hole he shot out. This was pretty simple and effective, only took a minute to do, and the mantis survived. My brother put him in a 5 gallon tank.
