I got this black "sponge" growing out of the LR. It can contract into the LR when disturbed. However, it is not mobile and cannot move. Most of the time it is expanded and visible as shown in this picture. It is growing quite rapidly.

Not sure what it is and if it is harmful.
Please help to ID this and thanks.

If it retracts it's not Porifera (sponge). From that picture it's impossible to tell what it is. Are you sure this doesn't move? If it does move slowly my guess would be a species of sea slug, possibly Scutus spp.

haha no offence.. but thats the WORST ID picture I've ever seen!

You may think so, but there are plenty on this forum, where I can't even see the thing to ID.

At least you can see this one... I think I've got the ID too... it's a propeller from a Tunze that's broken off...if your flow is reduced recently, I rest my case.

A propeller? now that is the most unique hitch hiker ID I have ever come across...lol, sorry, but that is too funny, and am glad I did not offer up a possible ID on it...lol Thanks!
