These appeared in my tank on rock that had been in there for 2yr and at least 4mo. since anything on rock added to tank. I like it and think it's probably beneficial. I'd just like to know what it is. The red grows in high current area and texture is firm but not hard.

They are on the red bubble algea or cyanobacteria shown in your photo. I had the same thing in my tank. You can see they are standing on red right?

I hadn't paid close attention to what they were standing on, but i looked when i read you reply. Are you sure about your id because the red in those photos came from the light being filtered through the bubble most of it doesn't seem to be growing on cyanoalgae. I have red cyano but most of this bubble stuff seems to be growing on my coraline alagae and in high current parts of the tank that stay mostly clear of red cyano growth in my tank. I'm not saying your wrong i just want to know if you sure. If you are, should i try to rid my tank of this stuff as well? In any case i would like to see the rest of you videos and would appreciate the direct link.

I'm no expert. It could be something else. I am just basing it on my own experiance. I had a seperate oxtagon tank that I created for a quarantine tank, but I neglected it, and it starting growing those red bubbles. I thought they were cool and I got alot of cool vids from them, but then the tank exploded with red cyanobacteria, which I then infected my reef tank inadvertantly. You can certainly get a second opinion, from some of the many experts that browse these pages. But I would pick up some red slime remover from UltraLife reef products just in case. It's a yellow powder that is safe for reef tanks, but kills red slime in days!

Thx for the linx ! One more question. Is the red slime remover from UltraLife safe for Dragonettes ? The last time i used a chemical to stop my algae my Mandarin Dragonette died.

I'm not sure, but I don't think so, I use it in my reef system and have not lost anything but red slime. I don't have what you have though.
