I recently got some rock from another person's system, and about a week later I spotted some aiptasia polyps on it. I instantly yanked it out along with another rock that was adjacent to it that had a polyp on it too.

Now for about a week the two rocks have been sitting in a bucket of tap water. How do I kill off the aiptasia 100% from the rock. I don't care if I lose anything else from the rock, I just want the aiptasia GONE.

The one rock's too large to boil, and I've heard not even that's 100% effective. What about leaving the rock outside to dry out for a time period?

the most efective way to kill the aiptasia is by using Copper,, and since you don't care about anything else on the live rock it will also kill anythin live.... you will end up with a simple Rock instead of the live rocks

don't use copper, because once you have killed everything, then placed the rock back in your main tank..the copper will bleed into the rest of your tank, and i believe you will have massive troubles.

I have heard you can keep the rocks in total darkness for a few days and the aptasia will die off. but corals, corraline, macros, and so on will suvive.

there is a safe way that you could do to remove all of the Copper residual from your tank by using a product called Easy-Life... it is a great product we have tried it in a friend's hospital tank... and it removed the copper completly in less than one day... we even tested the tank the next day by adding a starfish to the tank

what an interesting approach. i would have thought a copper test might have worked just as well, maybe even better without the possible tortured to death invert. :?

Hoooo boy is that untrue. Aiptasia not only lives it thrives in the absence of light. It does NOT need zooxanthellae to reproduce.

If the rocks have been sitting in fresh water for a week the Aiptasia is dead. Along with anything else on the rocks. I would scrub them off really well with a stiff brush and rinse them real well before using them in your tank again.

I've heard peppermint shrimp, kalk paste injected, vinager injected, joe's juice injected, copperband butterfly & blow torch but NEVER copper.

You will kill everything in your tank if you use copper.

ahh..it's all about innocence. aptasia plays the plays the part of the unwanted pest we didn't invite, that will surely make our lives miserable.
the starfish is the rabbit who's eyes we spray aerosol hairspray into, to simply see how irritating it is.

Starfish eat your sand bed fauna. There's no innocence there.

Joes juice is kalk paste.

gonna start calling you "Alternative Man"

And Joes Juice is a LOT cheaper than buying Kalk just to get rid of a few anemonies. Lots of uneducated, newb reefers like myself don't use kalk.

I do, however have a few vials of Joe's Juice. Next time my Ca is a bit low I think I'll make my top off water with JJ. Since its the same it should be just fine :)

Doesn't sound like a good idea DOES IT?!
