I moved a piece of liverock and this critter was behind it... it is fairly hard to the touch, and the "tentacle" for lack of a better term telescopes in and out...
the body is tan with light vertical stripes .. the "tentacle" has tiger stripes on one side...

the tank it was in has been set up for almost a year...

Yep, its a peanut worm. But I have never seen one totally out of the rock like that, I've only seen the tiger-striped trunk sticking out of a little hole in the rocks. Interesting.

Well, at least now I can see how it got the name "peanut worm".
I always thought it was a strange reference, but it makes sense now.
