Please help Identify

I would appreciate it if someone could help me identify the white to tan growth behind the acro. Morphology now more tattered than when younger but could not get close enough for decent picture at that time. The growth started off as a small thin white semicircle with fine "hairs" on the edges. It grew relatively quickly to the current size. Spontaneoulsy appreared on tonga shelf rock several months after set-up.

type of algae probably. might also be a bryozoan...but doubt it.

Its a macroalgae, Padina species.

I had my doubts about it being a macro algae but the great link you attached was money. What I have looks exactly like the picture of phaeophyta. Thanx.
