So, I was wondering do i need the controller for this unit if I'm using a apex? or do I need the Controller that comes with it.

I use my finnex off my apex and another on apex

dont need it if your using apex but id get it anyway and plug the heater and the controller into the apex as a dual controller

I use two as if one goes other one would kick on.. Little back up never hurt but there's a million diff ways to set up YOUR tank.. Good luck
