I'm looking into setting up an acrylic reef tank. I've owned only glass for 15 years in the hobby. i would like to get some advice with acrilic? i know it scratched so is it a bad idea? i see really large tanks in acrylic and i love the seamless look of the corners as opposed to seeing silicone. any advice. i'm looking to get back into the hobby. thanks

bout half my tanks have been acrylic and current one is also, it does scratch easier the glass, but atleast you can fix the scratch, less then half the weight of glass and stronger

Now this is interesting in the fact that I own bolth. I actually have an acrylic, an aga with regular glass, and a glass tank using starfire glass. I love my acrylic and in a large tank it is very easy to manage as well as drill. Furthermore the clarity is quite amazing. Yes it scrathces but it is very easy to get out.(remember glass scratches as well) With that being said I also like my smaller tank with starfire glass and would recomend this for all small to moderate size tanks(50-300). Now here is another idea...why not go with a hybrid tank.....:) Age makes amazing tanks with acrylic bottoms and backs with starfire glass fronts......Like you didnt have enough options out there....:smash:.

How do they get glass and acrylic to seal?
I would stay away from that for a few years. The two products have different expansion rates. Though the tank is constant temp when filled and running but during transportation I'm sure there will be uneven expansion and contraction of the two materials. JMO
