what does RTN and STN mean

can someone explain their meaning and what causes it in ea. case and how to correct it. thanks

Someone could write a text book trying to answer that question...

For starters

RTN = rapid tissue necrosis.
STN = slow tissue necrosis

A number of issues can cause either. But the big difference RTN can wipe out a colony in a few hours. STN takes days.

Correct on all counts, and in fact that book has yet to be written. Neither phenomenon is well understood and likely so complex that simple explanations and meaningful solutions are not forthcoming. There are however LOTS of anecdotes and speculations and unproven theories.

RTN/STN are usually brought on by stress, wether its from shipping, poor water quality, unstable water parameters like temp fluctuation, Kh swings, low calcium, global warming, ocean acidification, rising sea temps... The list goes on and on.

RTN is quick, like a matter of a few hours and the whole coral could be gone
