Really high Magnesium -not dosing it

Folks,

220 gallon reef. Dosing CA and ALK - 450ppm and 10dKh steady. Ph 8.1 - 8.3 (up/down)

my mag is 1600!!!

I did a red-bug kill a few days ago. refreshed carbon, gfo and 35 gallons of h2o

any ideas? Is this level of Mag harmful?

That sounds more like testing error. Try a re-test and make a liter of fresh seawater and see what it says.

excellent idea, testing 'fresh' batch of h2o. I use RedSea tests, but I have ELOS as well.

I'll let you know the results (if you'd like)

Def.test problem. I tested water from a fresh batch using the red sea test, MG 1600. Elos test 1200. Same results with the tests on tank water.

Jeez....I thought the RS tests were great, and compared to others they've been spot on. Guess that is why we have two test kits!

Good to here the issue is solved Debby. Looks like you got a bad RS test kit.
