Does anyone know if there are any negative side effects from dosing Urea into a marine system? It seems to be a good way to add Nitrate for the benefit of my clams...

Thanks in advance

Nope, I've been talking to a friend of mine who breeds about 125,000 clams per year for the food industry. He doses Urea so I wondered if I could.....

Hhmm..I have no idea, as most food clams come from very different waters. Minh Nguyen would be the first guy who comes to mind to ask.

I was reminiscing about "the old days" working at one particular warehouse, and we'd set up a new salt system (some several thousand gallons, IIRC) and we wanted to get it going. I went to call some vendors, come back and find everyone with their flies down, peeing in the salt sump. Had quite the giggles over that for a loong time.

I don't know of any problems that you might encounter off hand. I also don't know if clams can use it directly, or if it needs to be converted into other forms prior to absorption by the clams.
