thanks for the great info Randy!

in regards to the magnesium supplementation, would it be a preferable to use a magnesium supplement like Kent which doesn't list sulfate in it's contents?
also you said you hadn't found a suitable magnesium chloride.. does this mean that Nigari has been proven as unsuitable?

It means that I don't know if Nigari is suitable or not. :D

Using a commercial magnesium supplement is a fine alternative. Using that method, the issues around chloride rising relative to sulfate will come back (from the calcium chloride). I guess it depends on whether you want sulfat to rise, or chloride. Using some of each might be best.
