Does anyone have or know of a list of homemade/replacement additives for a reef tank.
For example I have heard that baking soda can be used pH (not sure if it brings it up or down though) are there replacements for calcium or to raise alk?
The LFS pricing is ridiculous! There have to be alternative ways to dose and have good results.
I know this is an expensive hobby, and I will never stop paying the price
but i think it is obscene for them to charge $10 for a small package of "Seaweed Selects" when i can run down to the local oriental food store and get a giant package of Nori for $1.69. I realize they need to make their money, but damn that is a hell of a markup!
Im just looking for alternative ways to dose chemicals
thanks to all who give their input!! Im sure others will appreciate it as well!!
