I have read just about every article and tried just about everyting to fix my low pH problems. Please help.
The pH of my RO/DI water is pretty low imo measured at 6.6 (avg of three readings). I am using a Hanna digital pH meter. After adding Oceanic salt (SG=1.023) it comes up to ~8.02. After aerating (powerhead w/ airline hose) the water in the basement for several hours it comes up to ~8.03. Aerating it upstairs for a couple more hours bringing it to ~8.05. Aerating it outside doesn't cause it to increase.
I am now assuming that my initially low pH RO/DI water (at pH of 6.6) is causing the final water to be low. Thus, the Oceanic salt is calibrated to produce water with a pH of 8.2 based on a starting water pH of around 7 (neutral). Does that sound right?
So, what is the solution. A lot of the pH buffers out there also cause ALK to rise as well, so I was figuring that my best bet would be to use washing soda so that I don't cause my ALK to rise too high.
Thanks in advance.
