We currently have extremely hard well water (approx. 100 grain at our house), that contains gaseous sulfur. (Northwest Ohio area) The water is treated with hydrogen peroxide then ran through a large filter to remove precipitated sulfur. Water is then softened. Because of the large amount of softener salt required, a five stage "Aqua Pure" TFM RO filter is then used for drinking water. The RO water tasts great and tests 0.0 for Phosphate and Nitrate. We are currently using carbon filtered water from our local LFS for water changes and top off in our 90 gal. mixed reef tank. The LFS water work pretty good, however, we've been picking-up some phosphate in it lately.
I'd like to start using our RO water but am a little concerned because of the well water. We also have copper piping in our house. (Before the RO unit.) I spoke with the tech rep. at Aqua Pure who faxed a spec. sheet indicating the RO should take out 96% - 98% of most metals and other contamants.
Has anyone had any experience with questionable well water and RO systems? Short of having an expensive water analysis completed, any advice? Thanks!
