Recently I picked up some nice SPS colonies and both came from different lighting than mine.

I bought 2 frags from a member using overdriven T5s
and two colonies from a member using 150 MH. Currently I have a 400 watt de pendent on a 54 corner.

For day one I just ran my t5 actinics, day 2 I have them at about half way up in the tank (10-12" down) and have light elevated to about 12" above tank.

Just checking what others usually due to avoid shocking new corals with excessive light

watch them for signs of bleaching, but your method sounds good. better to start them off with less light than too much.

Thanks, not referring to new corals but one coral I had for a while thats doing great with 30 or so branches, has 2 branches that are bleached at the tips and I realized they were right in front of the return flow, should they be cut off to avoid spread, or just leave be?

if it was damaged from strong flow, then theres no need since it isnt like it was attacked from pest or infections. once its place in a better spot, it should regain its wounds given other par is good.

Thanks reef, yea all parameters are perfect just one tip of one branch the coral is probably 10" X 8" and the one branch has the top inch white, where it was directly in line of the flow

Overall in regards to placement, Ive kept the MH 400 light 12" up and set time so that its only on for 3 hrs' for today and will increase over the next week or so, till I get to usual 8hrs
