Ok I got this fixture Outer Orbit HQI/T5 Fixture 36" 2-150W HQI, 4-39W T5 & 18 LUNAR LIGHTS and one member told me it would be too much for my corals. So what I did i reduced the lighting time and set the timer to 6 hours of actinics and 3 hours oh MH daily and still my corals are bleaching out. The size of my tank is 40 breeder. Is this too strong for my tank? Other members from Reefcentral told me that its not too strong. I had some really easy to care for SPS like the brong digita which i noticed a few days bleaching out. I also notice that my Candy Cane is bleaching out as well. What do you guys think its this too strong???

check you params first...a 40breeder is 16" tall so that light is plenty strong for even corals at the bottom....i have the same light on a 50breeder and it was alot too...

Probably not too much light but more of an non-acclimation mistake. (I've seen people put 250w on a 24g nano cube) Dependent on what lights they were under prior to the Orbit, acclimation should be very gradual. You could have done the mesh screen scenerio with reduce lighting period. Try to reduce the Mh to 2 hours per day for at least a week and see if you can place the corals on the bottom of the tank temporary. Also Lugols will help in bleaching situations if not too far gone.

is the bleaching from the tips down? candy canes do bleach easy.
however,as warren stated, the most important part is acclimation. sometimes even changing to new bulbs or changing the carbon can bleach too. moving the light source higher n/or screening is your best bet. post some pics of the bleaching.

wow that sucks i got the same fixture but just mh i got them running from 11am-9pm lol a lil to much but you could raise it from the tank... if you have the kit you could hook it up... if you got 300w blowing onto a 40g lol that might be to much raise them a lil...

I have candycanes in a 22 inch tall tank with 150 mh 96 watt pc lots of carbon and they do great on the sand bed and at the very top of the tank I originally had these over 6 years ago on a 20 tall tank with just pc lights
a friend of mine got some from me and placed them at the top of his tank with 250 mh and they bleached within a week when he placed them lower in the tank they slowly came back
Have you tried placing them on the bottom ? how about raising the lights higher and lower them a little every week ?
