Hey guys/gals, not sure what is going on in my tank. 1st. my lps started going and sps that I thought were long goners started coloring back up. With the reviving of those sps I did go ahead and added a couple more. The new additions were doing great for a couple of months so I added a couple more. I replaced my 3 X 175 MH & 240 watts of VHO with 3 X 250 MH & 96 watts of PC. I was told to acclimate the corals to this new lighting with window screening which I am still working with. At this time I am down to the last layer of which shall be removed next week Saturday.
As everyone knows Randy/prattreef recently fragged some of his corals, so of course I jumped on 2 of them. When I got home with my new additions I found one of my favorite coral had started turning white from the underside. I had moved this coral from the left side of my tank over to the right because the mh on the left had blown and I was waiting for a replacement. Also, my Ora Green Bird's Nest body turned white but the polyps have stayed green. All monties ared doing really good, millies are good, some acros are also doing well.
I don't know what to make of this, nor how or what to correct. I am honestly hoping you guys will give me some advice.
I run GFO and Roxio Carbon in TwoLittleFIshies Reactors each with it's own MJ PH. There are 4 #3 Koralias in this tank and the returns are Iwaki 40rlt and Eheim 1260. Protein Skimmer is not the best, but it skims.;)
Lighting cycle is PC 2 blue 2 white: 10 AM to 11 PM, MH 5 PM to 10 PM.

Parameters:
Brand New Salifert Test kits

Temp 77
alk 11
cal 475
mag 1410
trates high range it's below 2, but not totally clear either.
low range it's 2.5
P04 .50 on a Hanna meter

Unfortunately, it's correct..it read 0.50 :( Her established corals looked great when I was there the other day..with the exception of the few Awilda points out as having issues. Didn't make any sense to me either.

I'd redo that test. I find the Hanna meter to give bad readings pretty readily if everything is not done perfectly when testing. If it is .50 ( or anywhere near it) I'd change the GFO and up the amount you are using in the reactor. Where is all this PO4 coming from ???? It is not like you are a total beginner who doesn't know how to feed and adhere to basic husbandry practices.

Hi guys, perhaps Kat will be sweet and come again with her Hanna.
I've been changing out the phosphate media (previously Phozar) monthly. Since the Hanna meter said .50 I am going with weekly GFO changes. I was doing weekly water change of 20 or so gallons until 2 weeks ago when I was told that is to much and I should do them monthly.
I'm sure the P04 is coming from my lr as before the switch of the tank 2 years ago I had a reading of 1.25 on crappy Hagen P04 test kit. I didn't/don't doubt that it was way higher then that since back in those days when I was a total newborn to salt water I did not use ro di water. So I am sure my lr is still releasing phosphates back into the water.:sad2: I thought it would be done by now, but I guess not.:(
