Hi all,

I am in the process of designing my sump and have a few questions about my return flow design.
I got a 30gal long glass tank to use for a sump/fuge, but it came already drilled with a 1" bulkhead.

if I have my sump set up such as :

I Skimmer I I I fuge I I I return chamber I where I stands for tankwalls and baffles,...

1) should I double back the flow to the fuge again as I see many people do
2) how big my return chamber should be considering I will be using an external pump?

Can anyone post pics of their sump designs?

I cant speak for the size of the return chamber for an external pump i use a submersible and i have it sized so that if my overflow clogs my display can hold the amount left in the chamber without causing a mess , id rather pay for a new pump if it burns out rather than the mess of water everywhere

But as for the flow , the only reason to have the plumbing break off and go back to the fuge is if the fuge is after the return chamber which in your case its not , or if your pump is ovrsized and you need to turn the flow down , its better to redirect the water back inro the sump that to just use a ball valve to cut the flow as it causes more stress on the motor
