Hello everyone, I am looking to build an acrylic sump/refugium for my 75 gallon tank. What materials should I use? How big should it be? Any advice is appreciated.
A lot of people use an aquarium they get at the dollar per gallon sales that happen at Petco or Petland Discount and get glass dividers cut at glass shops.
Acrylic is more difficult to work with and you cannot blend acrylic and glass easily.
If you are set on an acrylic sump the better option is to contact Custom King in the vendor section of MR.
Two problems with this, the first is that I am adding it on to an existing tank and I cannot fit an appropriately sized tank into my stand without compromising the structural integrity of the stand. Second I already have all the acrylic sheets in the sizes I need, I just need a way to make a permanent water-tight seal.
Getting a water tight seal is why most people use manufactured tanks.
For that size I would contact Jeff at Custom King.
For the amount of money you will spend you are far better with a professional sump than one you are building.
