I'm thinking of drilling my new tank and building a glass surface skimmer for it. I want a thin skimmerbox to not use up to much space. I'm thinking of making the box 26"Lx4or5"Hx1or1 1/2"D. I am also wondering if I should drill for one 1 1/2" bulkhead or two 1" bulkheads. I am probably going to have to cut some of the threads off the bulkhead fittings to be able to remove them if ever needed due to the box only being 1-1 1/2"deep. Any pro's or cons to this idea that you can see?

the idea of a thin overflow rocks. I've made one or 2 and it's nice.

However, I think 1 1/2" is too thin. you'll have to cut too many of the threads off the outside. I have a 1" sch.40 bulkhead I just measured. If you cut it so it's 2" long you would have enough threads ON THE INSIDE to connect to it. If you cut any more you might run out of luck and room to thread a fitting on.

I'd go with two 1"

What size is the tank? would that extra 1" you're cutting off really make a difference?
