Hey everyone,

I got a little side tracked today and instead of finishing my 125 gal. canopy I wound up building a stand & canopy for a 20 gallon tank which I am going to give to a close family friend as a christmas present. I just have to finish the door. It's going to be stained a whitewash color. I think he's going to like it.

Nice work.

However, in the first pic the cross braces are screwed into the sides of the legs/uprights. They should sit on top so the weight is distributed to the uprights rather than the screws holding it together.

But since you put a top on the stand I wouldn't worry about it for a 20 gallon.

Nice work Bueller. The recipient of that setup will love it.

Normally I'd agree B. But all the weight will still be picked up on the vertical members. There'd be no way for the tank to fall between the legs sheering the screws. Definitely not the ideal way to do it, but it'll work just fine. And like you said, it's capped and that will distribute weight too. That stand is beefed up to easily hold a 90 gallon, no problem.

I was going to lap joint it together, but it's only for a 20 gallon and I used my kreg tool for joining.. the joints are as strong as a lap joint with the kreg. If I was going to do a 55 or bigger...yea, I'd lap joint them.

Going to get the stain tomorrow, will post when done

THANKS bueller
