Hey guys starting the construction phase of my 20g H sump and need some input.
I have some 1/8"glass uncut, did some trial cuts and seems to be pretty easy.
What do you guys think of my sump layout? Is this a normal layout?
Do I need more baffles?
Does the the skimmer sit with the return pump of the overflow?

Bad Coffee any input?

Thanks All

Sharn, maybe you should go with smaller refugium area and larger skimmer area to fit a BIGGER skimmer? :)

Your more than welcome to come over and check out my sump which is similar to yours, i used plexiglass instead of actual glass.

What return pump are you going with?

You could probably just go with 1 baffle between the skimmer area and the fuge and then add a third baffle in between the fuge and the return. This will keep the bubbles to the return area to a minimum. Also do what what House said about the drop of the water.
The size of your bulkheads will determine what size pump you can use.

I just did one of these this weekend! I agree with tripple baffles before your return pump. You may find it hard to fit all the necessary baffles in here and still have room for a fuge. A 20 long mught be better for that. I too was trying to fit a fuge but decided to go with a larger skimmer instead. Your skimmer and fuge are going to compete for nutrients otherwise. (Unless your fuge is just for pod production.)

I opted to go with the right 3/4 of the tank as drain + skimmer then placed triple baffles (over, under, over) and the return pump on the left side. My drain doesn't produce bubbles as I use a sponge over the (up pointed) output the way a Euroreef or ASM skimmer does. You may want to try that instead of using baffles there.

The second drawing looks good.

What skimmer are you using and do you plan to upgrade? If you're not going to upgrade any time soon, just make the first chamber big enough to hold the skimmer.

I put my baffles about 1" apart. and leave between 1 and 2 inches below the middle one.

I'm too much of a klutz to use 1/8" glass. I'd break my baffles if I did use it. If you can find 3/16 or 1/4 I'd go with it. Or you could just be careful.

Thanks B, your word is as good as gold & understandable LOL :).
I plan on using the medium sized Coral Life Super skimmer.

Thanks again, I really appreciate everyone's input.
