building refugium and sump

i want to build a refugium/sump i already have a sump but i want to make it the way i should have planned ahead but thats b4 i found this board... can i make 2 seperate compartments for each..or is it best to just have 2 different tanks and have them plumbed together in the bottom of the stand...

Well on my 92 G I have a 20 gallon sump/refugium. What I did was split the sump in two length wise with a piece of plexiglass. I then put in a few baffles. On the one end there is my tank drain and my return pump. On the other is a sandbed and some macro algae. The peace that I used to separate the tank with has a notch cut into at the end that sand bed is at so water can flow around the divider...through the sandbed...into the skimmer and back up the return line. So far it has worked really well. I have been meaning to take a piture of it and post it to see what people think...maybe tommorow...
