Hi! If I recollect correctly, I think it was GScheimer who said that he's actually used plain old Krylon to paint PVC and whatnot.

I wanted the back of my tank painted black, and used Rustoleum brand. It worked rather well. For _in_ the tank application, I would try and get an epoxy paint from your Local boating supply store. I used this stuff on the inside of the hood I built for my 90 gallon. Most excellent stuff. Will attach to almost anything, but it's an epoxy paint, so it has a setup and cure time, before you can re-coat, finish, etc. It's available in clear, and you add colorants to it to tint to taste. I used some from "West Systems", and got some really good help from the manufacturer. They had a website and good tech support email people (guy was actually a chemist there who answered).

It's a little to late but I like to use contact paper on the back of the tank because you can allways remove it.

The back of my new tank is blue acrylic (not painted, blue colored plastic). i would like it black and plan to use the krylon noted in vaious posts. will I be able to clean the back of my tank without scaping the paint off?

If your concern is the colour of your PVC fittings in your tank, paint may not be the best approach.
Do a Google for "clear pvc schedule 40"

Probably safer than paint.
