Is it okay to use suction cups that aren't specifically made for aquarium use for securing things to the inside of a saltwater tank? Specifically, I have some Crawford Medium Suction Cups from Home Depot that I wanted to use. They hold up to 3 lbs. each, which is more secure than the airline tubing suction cups I had before. Are these safe to use? They have a stronger latex smell than the airline tubing or heater kind for aquariums.

It's for a feeding station for seahorses.

I wouldn't see why it would be a problem. Have you tried to contact the manufacturer to see if it's a foodgrade plastic?

I've used something very silmilar to that with no ill effects. Its essentially the same material that vinyl tubing is made of.

Note that just like vinyl tubing, it will turn white after a few weeks in the water, and may loose some of its suction ability.
