I was wanting to construct a 18x8x24 (15g) fresh water holding tank for an autmatic topoff system.

If I used 3/8" acrylic would I need any sort of bracing around the top? If so could I use 3 - 3" strips and apply one to each end covering the corners and another in the center?

OR would it be better to use 1/2" and if so would that need bracing as well?

Thanks,
Kurt

Hi Kurt,
It seems to me that if you are making a storage tank, you'll want to put a lid on to keep dust and general crud out. In that case, bracing around the top would make a convenient place to rest the lid.

That tank calculator on the Cyro website will tell you how thick your acrylic (cast, of course) needs to be. I can look up the link if you need it.

HTH,
Teresa
