I am looking to get feedback on the idea of adding a UGF to my DIY sump. The sump is a large rubbermaid container with plenty of available surface area to put a UGF on. I had originally envisioned keeping LR in this area to help filtration and/or use it as a refugium after reading UGF's were not ideal for reefs.
However, thinking about it some more, I'm wondering if the UGF would not be perfect for the sump. Detrius build-up should not be an issue since the water has to make it through the pre-filter and wet/dry bio-tower before getting to the sump and I can actually use gravel in the sump rather than sand-like substrate that would be in tank. This eliminates the two main complaints I've seen about UGF's in a reef. Any thoughts? Thanks,
