Real easy question for you all. I was woundering if any of you have put a bigger pump on a CPR back pack. I have the hang on model and need a strong enough pimp to sit on the bottom of the sump. Do you all know if the bigger Rio pump models still have the air hose attachment before the impeller (venturi). I tried using a power head last night, but the air bubles are not comming out fine enough, and as you all know, if you place the air hose before the impeller on a powerhead it messes everything up. I am going to contact CPR, but I was woundering if you all hand any experience with this type of situation.
Thanks for any help.

Some use a Rio 800 with the venturi kit... some use MaxiJet 1200 with a hard-to-find venturi kit.

Thank you,
I think I am going to try the rio 800 and see what it can do. Maybe I should just get a better skimmer.

Just A little FYI for you all.
By using a bigger pump with a CPR backpack, the water flows through the chamber to fast and it did not really skim that well. In fact all it did was fill my tank with micro bubles.

I had the same problem when I first put an 800 Rio in my original BacPac. I found a piece of old open sponge filter slightly wider than the exit chamber of the CPR and about 1/8" less depth. (So there's an open 'slot' up the back). I cut the sponge block at a 45 degree slat on the bottom and about a 30 degree slant on the top. Longest side goes toward the tank, it's about 5 inches. Slide the sponge so the thin part of the 30 degree cut just covers the exit into the tank making the water flow path go through a small wedge of the sponge. That way the air bubbles come up and get directed toward the slot in the back - up and out. The sponge cuts the flow rate and blocks any micro bubbles from going in the tank. I've been using this for a couple of 3 years now. I clean the sponge in a mild Clorox solution weekly to help keep it from becoming a biofilter.
Seems to work well for me, hope something like this helps you also.

Happy Holidays! Bill

Thanks Bill
I ended up just buying a CPR bio sump and am currently using that on my 46 bow. It is working so much better and I think I will just use the back pack for my next porject.
Thanks again and happy holidays
