I have been planning my thank and sump for quite some time and have wondering about new ways to do things. I have a 40 gallon tank that I want to use as my sump. I was thinking about putting in some bio-wheels. I found at Petco and other places you can now purchase replacement bio-wheels. I was thinking about cutting some notches into some plexiglas and placing the bio-wheels in the middle of the sump. Use a small power head to lift the water up (using tubing) over and dropping it onto the bio-wheels.

Is this a good idea? What are your thoughts about this?

My thoughts?

ANN process incomplete. Nitrates suspended in water column and not in proximity to anoxic bacteria which might help to complete the process (for our concerns)...

Rock, moderate sand and skimmer use combined with occasional carbon/poly.

But I have no phd and I'm not a chemist so don't expect me to defend this stance..

BTW - This should probably have been posted in a different forum..

I agree with GD. If you are looking to use some unused space fill it with live rock to the normal operating level of your sump.
