I'm still in the planning stages for my 80 gallon reef tank. Since it will be located on the wall next to the garage, I was going to run the pipes through the wall as well as hood venting. I was thinking of using a pair of 55 gallon water barrel drums inline to add some water stability. Has anyone ever used them before? I would think that they are saltwater safe. Their purpose wouldn't be to house any equipment, I'd still have another area for that, I just thought it would be a good way to easily increase water volume. Maybe I'd even add 4 of them :). The 80 gallon display tank would then have an effective volume of over 300 gallons.

I am not sure about the barrels. If they are "food safe", then they should be "reef safe"

Do you know what the barrels are made out of? What were they made to store?

I think increasing your capacity if a good idea.
