I have cut my wood and was wondering if I need to sand before or after adding the water sealer? Also what kind of sealer should I use and what kind of paint should I use on the inside of the canopy? This is my first time doing a diy for my aquarium and don't want to mess it up toooooo bad.

Thanks for any and all the help you guys give to the newbies like me.

Snad prior to sealing, otherwise, you have to heavy sand afterwards and sealant gum up sandpaper fast!

I would start with 100 grint then go to 220, finish with 320. Then wipe a damp rag over the whole suface, this brings us some of the wood fibers. Then hit the surface again with the 320.

If you are using a polyurethane, you'll need to sand with 0000 steel wool between coats for a nice finish

good luck
