36G sump

I would like to have sump and refuge under my main tank (44G). I have 36 G tank. I would like to have it setup in my basement. There will be about 5 feet distance between two. My question is: Do you all thing this is a good idea? what type of pump should I use? Any comments or suggestions welcome.
