Its up and running.

Man what a lot of work.

I got the sump out from under the tank by cutting some of the cabinet away. Grrrrrrrrr.....

Here are some pics. I am not happy with the whole thing because its back being noisy -- sounds like niagra falls. Not really but it is loud. I had it dialed in I guess the way it was before, it was perfectly silent. Now there is a gurgling noisy waterfall OOOOOOOOOO I am so irritated at it right now noise

Anyway... Pics

The funny thing is this

Even though there are a ton of bubbles there where the water enters the sump, almost none of them actually make it to the return which is in the bottom corner of the other end of the tank.

I don't think I will even need a whole bunch of baffles. I might not put any at all....

Now, the noise problem. Should I put a ball valve at the bottom of the drain, right near where it goes into the sump, or should I put one one each of the two drain lines that come together up in the cabinet?

Any ideas?

OH, and before I get any comments about the electrical...

I am going to sort that out today, I needed to run to work to get a long drill bit so I can drill another hole through the flooring for the wires....

It will be all nice and proper before I am done....

Yeah, a preemptive strike Knucklhead.... I made a mental note that there were wires all over the place--but the extension cord hanging next to the salt water tank definitely got my attention. 8O

Think that is bad you should see what is up around my display tank

I am running to work right now, I have some pictures to take and I am going to get that bit.

Any ideas about putting a valve in the drain line?

I would hesitate to restrict the overflow with a valve. Is it noisy upstairs or just downstairs by the sump?

I've never had to deal with an overflow with such a long drop. I have no basement. So I can't be a lot of help on this one.

Pretty cool having all that stuff in the basement--definitely gives you a lot more space for a large sump and all the equipment.

BTW, also, nice job on the stand!

No, I am using a knuckleflow and a drain set over on a 45 degree angle.

I think I am pushing too much water through them, they quiet down when I restrict the flow from the return pump.

Are there ANY sag's in hoses or 90deg angles before it hits the straight shot down to the sump?
I had a similair problem, I made a cover for my over flow and raised my intake hose from the box to remove a sag that was less than a 1/2" lower than the rest. Believe it or not, that little bit totaly solved my problems.
Of course I had to wait a little while for the flow to"settle" and even out its own turbulance, but once it did total silence.

Well, my system is almost finished. I am just waiting for my auto top off stuff to come in and I will plumb the top tank. Then doing water changes will be even easier.

Tonight I did a 20 gallon water change in less than 10 minutes, and it took longer than it should of because of the fact I didn't have that top tank full of mixed saltwater.

I am absolutely stoked!

I am using an auto top off kit sold by Kent marine to fill the top tank with RO water. That tank empties into the Sump tank with a little float valve sold by US plastics.

I just finished glueing that part up, so tomorrow morning I will know how it works.

Oh, and the reason I did it that way is because I am only going to fill the top tank up once a week with RO water. That way it will run continuously until its full, then I can use the bypass valve I just bought to clean the membrane on the RO unit, and then I will turn it off.
