I bought a t5 over tank luminaire from ebay and have just realised its only standard output t5 and not high output t5.
Does anyone think I can change the ballast to a standard t5 ballast with a higher wattage and run high output t5's?
Im an electrician and have a couple of 4ft twin t5 ballast at work but I dont know what happens when you use a smaller rated tube on a higher rated ballast?
Can anyone shed any light on the subject?

Have you looked at the IceCap 660 ballast? It will safely overdrive the HO tubes and give even more light that the HO ballast.

Over driveing bubls is very doable. There was a write up on it in a mag several months back that gave all the spectral bla bla. I'll see if I can find it and give you some more info, but it is something that can be done
