I have a mag 3 on my skimmer.

It got so it wouldn't start after being turned off.

I took it apart and found that the cover housing which has the inlet and outlet and a small part in the middle that holds one end of the impellor was worn badly.

So I ordered another for 6 bucks.

The new part is not worn, the impellor fits snugly in it yet the pump does the same thing, sometimes it won't start.

Am I missing something?

Is there some other reason for it not starting besides the impellor is off center?

I really need that pump for circulation, I replaced it with my circulation pump so I would have a skimmer running.

I hate to go buy another pump, I am so darn cheaply...

Well, I just fiddled with it a bit more, and the impellor doesn't fit tight in either the cover or down inside the motor.

Is it worth buying an impellor for? I don't know if the motor part is worn, its hard to see down in there...

I got it running with a little plastic pencil from a sudoko game.

I now have it rubber banded to the top of my tank

I couldn't find any duct tape.

How old is it? If the impeller is cheap enough I'd order another.
If it all looks to be considered new maybe it is an electrical problem. Just plain worn out.
