I figure, since you only change the media once a month or so, I would just disconnect it from the pump, hold it over the garbage can and remove the cartridge. It would extract the media as you pull it up. the clearance is only about 1/16" for the diffuser disks so no media should remain in the tube. I didnt think this would be too messy?
