Allright, I am looking for the stuff I need online to set my RODI unit up so it tops off my tank automatically.

I found the Flushkit, that is simple and cheap enough, and is on my list.

However, I have been looking at thinks to control the water level in my tank with, and for some reason all the ones I have found say not for use in aquariums. Why is that?

Is there some special reason why you have to buy a fancy schmancy 80 dollar system to set up an auto top off from an RODI unit?

Personally I would never have the RO/DI directly topping off my system. I would be too paranoid of the possibilities if something went wrong. IIRC, the other downside is that apparently the constant on/off is not the best way to operate a RO system.

I think a lot of people use a cheap float valve to topoff a reservoir tank, trashcan, etc. and then use a pump+float switch setup or some such to actually topoff the tank. If you go that route I would plumb some type of emergency overflow in the reservoir in the event that the RO/DI auto topoff screws up.

Most thing are not meant to be use near saltwater, that's why. I use SpectraPure's LLC for RO/DI top off. With a badder tank, htere is not much on/off going on.

Well, try to over pay your tax on your paycheck, so next year, you will have a bigger refund....

I use a mechanical float and a pressure sensitive valve. Cheap, works well, and there's no electricity involved.

"downside is that apparently the constant on/off is not the best way to operate a RO system"

Take this to heart. Everytime a RO starts up thee's a short spike in impurities. If the RO does a lot of start/stop then you'll use up your DI rosins a lot faster.

1/2 the refund goes to bills

1/4 goes to something for our house

1/8 goes to my wife

1/8 goes to me

I am expecting about 2 grand back

I have a 3g RO tank (looks similar to a propane tank) on the line coming off my RO, and from there lines going to kent float valves on all of my sumps. Been working great for over four years now. :)
